Funding

Fully funded projects are available to South African and foreign students. Students are generally expected to interact with sponsors and collaborators and be prepared to undertake national and international travel for focused periods of time.
For more info please contact Indresan Govender.

Collaborators

Aspects of our research are for industrial sponsors and research institutions around the world. Large portions of our funding are coupled to these collaborations.
See Links below for more details on collaborators.

About Us

The Applied Physics Group draws on a wide range of disciplines and expertise in tackling industrial, biological, computational and fundamental flow problems. Current research includes computational modelling of particulate and fluid systems, the application of nuclear imaging modalities like positron emission particle tracking (PEPT), X-ray and neutrons for in-situ visualisation of complex fluid and and particulate flows and mechanistic modelling of industrial systems. Problems tackled with these techniques include flow of charge particles in mineral systems, deformation of the human pharyngeal airway during episodes of obstructive sleep apnea, and general extension of the imaging and numerical techniques.
