Programme in Mathematical, Physical and Statistical Sciences (MPSS)

The Mathematical, Physical and Statistical Sciences (MPSS) Degree Programme in the UCT Science Faculty leads to the BSc degree with degree code SCIB14. This programme is a carefully planned, coherent set of courses, structured around a major (or majors), combining a strong foundation in one or more fields with the skills to function as a graduate. The programme curriculum requires students to achieve skills in numeracy, computer literacy, problem solving and communication.

Within the programme, a student will choose a particular specialisation, which specifies a group of required courses, and elective courses, around a particular major or majors. The specialisations are:

• Astrophysics
• Actuarial Science
• Applied Mathematics
• Demography and Statistics
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Statistical Sciences
