Continuum Mechanics
Outline
Tensor algebra and analysis. Configurations and kinematics: deformation
and strain tensors. Balance of energy, linear and angular momentum:
thre stress tensor. Constitutive laws. Elastic materials.
Inviscid fluids and Euler's equations. Viscous Newtonian fluids and the
Navier-Stokes equations.
1.5 Units.
36 Lectures.
2 Class Tests, together with tutorials count 25% towards final mark .
6 Tutorials.
Examinations to take place in June counting 75% towards final mark.
