GS: Introduction to gamma ray spectroscopy

The purpose of this experiment is for you to learn the basics of gamma ray spectroscopy using a NaI scintillation detector, standard "NIM" modules and a multichannel data acquisition system.  You will also understand the gamma ray interactions that give rise to the pulse height spectra observed for a number of standard gamma ray sources.

Experiment instructions (read before coming to the laboratory)

Pre-reading: Gilmore Practical Gamma Ray Spectroscopy Chapter 3  (read and understand before you come to the laboratory)

Some notes on peak fitting.

There are two copies of a bound collection of chapters from various books and manuals in PHYLAB3, and a copy of  Gilmore and Hemingway Practical Gamma Ray Spectroscopy.
Please do not remove these from the laboratory.
